CONDITION-PHOTOS-REFUNDS

Read the description carefully as information about condition, working order( if applicable), size, vintage and my personal opinions and observations will be mentioned there.

As far as the photos are concerned, I include views from all angles (if applicable), try to focus on any defects and generally let you see the toy as if you were inspecting it in person. That said, sometimes photos make things look better and sometimes worse. When a picture of a small item is blown up to a large size all kinds of defects seem to jump out at you...like looking at your skin in a magnifying mirror. The actual item seen by the naked eye, especially our aging eyes, often looks better than the photo.

Your satisfaction is always important to me. If you are unhappy about the condition of a toy you get I am happy to give a full refund or exchange it if that is possible. Things do get past my notice sometimes (those aging eyes).

Japanese Menko Cards

Japanese Menko cards were sold to children as both a game card and something to collect. There was a propaganda component to some cards, especially the ones dating from the 20's and 30's. Images of actors, comedians, or political figures would be mixed in with the comic characters and super heros that would appeal to children. They were sold in sheets and individually. Some menko have images (in a single color) on the reverse side.

Whatever their original purpose, I tend to view them as small works of art. I love the wonderful litho colors and images. Most of the menko I have are unused , some are even still unpunched or uncut on their original sheets. These are old stock that was never sold. A few of the cut cards that I have are used and the condition will be noted in the description.

The cards are printed on a semi gloss mid weight cardboard: color on the front with gold edging and green only ink on the back. The image on the backs of the cards is of a horned monster or super hero along with the usual numbers and sign language hands.

1950's Vintage Japanese Manga Comic Book- Three Travelers

3.5 inches (9 cm) tall and 2 and 5/8 inches (6.5 cm) wide

Very Good

only 2 left both with missing corners on cover

This small 1950's vintage colorful Japanese comic book or manga is 3.5 inches (9 cm) tall and 2 and 5/8 inches (6.5 cm) wide. The book has 28 panels on 14 pages. Each set of two pages is printed in a single ink color: blue, red, purple?brown or green. Sometimes the ink on some pages is light (a printing defect, not age).

The story is, of course, a mystery to me. It looks like the three travelers, one a bearded wise man, stop somewhere on their journey, a bunch of stuff happens and then they depart....presumably having taught some lesson to someone.

When opened and laid flat, the front and back covers usually form a single picture. In this case it shows the old man and his companions on the front and a picture of the bearded elder with his staff on the back.

Made in Japan for the Japanese market, the book reads right to left. Condition is very good to excellent. Sometimes pages are loose since they are held together with a single staple. The corner tips might be bent or missing on the cover page.

The story is, of course, a mystery to me. It seems to involve attacking elephants for their tusks and then remorsefully helping the sad elephants find the tusks. Without knowing the language it is pretty hard to keep the characters straight.

When opened and laid flat, the front and back covers usually form a single picture. In this case you'll see the sultan and his minion on the front cover and the sultan's palace on the back.

I have no idea what this 1950's vintage Japanese paper print was used for. The fact that a smaller section at the top is printed upside down would make it work on a cylinder as a label.

The colors in this print are typical 1950's vibrant red, turquoise, lime green, yellow and pink. I do not know what the Japanese characters say. The image shows a boy wearing a baseball cap and holding a bat on his shoulder. His hand rests on his little sister's pigtailed head. Excellent

I have no idea what this vintage Japanese paper print was used for. The fact that a smaller section at the top is printed upside down would make it work on a cylinder as a label.

The colors in this print are sort of plain: just red, a mustard yellow, white and dark blue. It might be 1960's vintage based on these colors. I do not know what the Japanese characters say. The image shows a Donald Duck-like duck , a clown, a Pluto-like dog and possibly a Japanese Oni (monster). The Disney characters are unlicensed.. Two boy heads in caps complete the picture.

9 inches (22.8 cm) tall

Excellent-Unused

This single sheet of vintage 1950's Japanese paper dolls is a very light weight card stock, just slightly heavier than plain paper and partially pre-punched. The colors and designs are very 1950's looking.

This sheet contains a man and boy (shown front and back) along with two sport coats and two shirt and shorts outfits for the child (all shown front and back). Other items: food, toys and accessories decorate the sheet and could be cut out if you are good with small scissors.

Each piece is partially pre-punched to make using them easier. You have to be careful with the clothes because for some reason the tabs that fold over to hold them on the figure are not pre-punched and would have to be cut out.

Condition is excellent and unused on these original 1950's vintage paper dolls. Made in Japan for the Japanese market.

Early Vintage Japanese Unused Empty Box-Mickey Mouse

3.5 inches (9 cm) wide

6 inches (16.3 cm) tall with flaps

EX-Unused

This small unused light cardboard box was probably for a deck of cards or maybe crayons. One one side the colorful litho depicts Mickey Mouse and a dog in a jeep with Donald Duck waving a flag from the side of the road. These characters are unlicensed of course and dressed in the height of 1950's Japanese fashion....lots of colorful mis-matched polka dots and patterns.

The other side of the box shows some uniquely Japanese characters also dressed in a riot of colors and patterns. The giraffe and elephant in their suits show up on quite a few Japanese toys and whistles starting in the pre-war era.

This box is flat, unfolded and has been unsealed on one edge to display the inside. The inside is printed with some other card shaped images that you could cut out or use in some game.
